Wardrobe data project: What styles do people wear?

Sequence of photos of people wearing minimal, casual, classic, chic, retro, and romantic styles. Text overlaid that reads, "What styles do people wear?"

Photos are from Unsplash. Unsplash grants you an irrevocable, nonexclusive, worldwide copyright license to download, copy, modify, distribute, perform, and use photos from Unsplash for free, including for commercial purposes, without permission from or attributing the photographer or Unsplash.

Most people don’t fall neatly into wearing one style, but are usually a blend of two or three different styles. Read my post, “What are the different types of fashion styles?” to familiarize yourself with these and see photo examples. It’s important to know your style blend so you can define your personal style and ultimately build a personal uniform.

In 2024, I released a survey to better understand the most popular style blends worn. For example, my style blend is Minimal, Chic, and Sporty.

32 people from around the world responded and the insights are shared in the data visualization below!

Disclosures: This is obviously not a true scientific study. I am very aware that there isn't enough data, controls around data submission and even survey respondent selection to make real conclusions. Please read and participate with this as an art project that is intended to make you think...and enjoy!
