How to create more outfits with less

The easiest place to start when shifting to a minimal wardrobe is to examine the “versatility” of each piece.

Most of us have about five uniforms we need. Disclosure: You may have more, less, or different than mine, which are:

1) Lounge (First photo): What you’d wear around the house or traveling

2) Active (Second photo): What you’d wear for exercise - this is what I’ve worn on a walk

3) Everyday (Third photo): What you’d wear for running errands, informal get together or weekend activities

4) Formal (Fourth photo): What you’d wear when you need to dress up for a wedding, job interview, date or special occasion

5) Work (Fifth photo): What you’d wear to wherever you work - for me, that’s an office

Look at each piece in your wardrobe and assign a Versatility Score to it. For example, this white button up I’m wearing in these photos gets a 5/5 because I’m able to wear it for each of my 5 uniforms: Lounge, Active, Everyday, Formal, Work

It’s not realistic that ~every~ piece you own can be styled for ~every~ occasion, but your goal should be to get an overall wardrobe score that’s fairly high.

This way of thinking makes shopping decisions easier. Look for pieces that fill the gap in your wardrobe and can work across the most possible categories.
